Established in the year 1990 by Late Mrs. Neeta Bahadur, President,Drishti Samajik Sansthan (Drishti) represents one of the leading organizations working for persons with Developmental Disabilities, Neurological Disorders, Physical Challenges and Multiple Challenges. A one of its kind institution, it focuses on resource poor and abandoned children. Its residential facility houses 270 Abandoned Multiple Challenged Children ranging from less than one year to 18 years of age. This is perhaps the largest of its kind facility. The scope of its work impacts the whole State of Uttar Pradesh and outside also, reaching out to thousands of children with Mental/Developmental Challenges and other different abilities.

As a mission-driven organization, Drishti endevours to impact and improve the lives of persons with mental challenges. Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Mental Retardation, Neurological Disorders, Hydrocephalus, Microcephalus... though multi-pronged interventions. It has customised the prevalent international practices in the domain to the local needs and developed its own indigenous versions of tools and equipment for development of intellectual and life skills in its target groups. In this context, a major project was the shelter house for Abandoned Children with developmental challenges that was noticed by the Honourable High Court of Allahabad, leading to the transfer of 145 children from various Government Homes to Drishti in 2014.

Given the different levels of mental and multiple health challenges in the children, Drishti has devised a unique approach of dealing with the different groups. The organization ensures both life Skills and Vocational Training as applicable. It offers training in Weaving, Artificial Jewellery Making, Quilling Paper Work, Painting, Embroidery, Zardozi Work, Greeting Cards Making, Ornamental and Gel candle Making, 10m Pistol Shooting etc. given the immense but unrealized potential of the children, Drishti embarked on the journey of exposing around 20 girls with Multiple Challenges directly to the retail endeavour through the D-café 16. Started around 5 years ago, D-café 16 is an Amul Preferred Outlet cum Cafe these specially trained girls run it. They prepare all types of Snacks, Coffee, Tea, Shakes, Fruit Juices etc. and sell various Amul Products across the counter.

Taking this further another venture is Drishti Pures, a Cold Pressed Oil and Spices Processing Unit being run by around 15 Multiple Challenged boys, to the best of our knowledge, both of these ventures are the first of its kind in the country, being run by persons with Multiple Challenges.

Drishti prides itself for its strong engagement with all stakeholders. Its engagement ranges from the residents around the area of its operations to National agencies like MCC), Govt. of India, National Trust, IGNOU, MP Bhoj University, Niti Ayog etc. Also, students from foreign universities viz. Duke University, Singapore University and those from Scandinavian countries visit and get trained in various aspects of special children. It has been supported both materially and through other resources by many people. There is formal government funding for it home but most of the activities are still supported by the ordinary citizens. Despite all the pressures, Drishti has chosen to work only with the resource poor children. It has been steadfast in sticking to its mission of impacting the lives
of children and their families from mostly rural areas. There are several plans in the pipeline. Drishti will work on them with the same approach of involving all the stakeholders and ensuring its sustainability through their support. This journey of over 33 years has been a Story of dedication and honesty. The future will be built on the same approach with the same dedication.
